In a powerful and heartfelt address, the newly sworn-in chairman of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dr. Bariere Thomas, has made it clear that his administration will be defined by tangible results, not empty promises. Speaking to his people at a church service following his inauguration, he underscored his commitment to peace, security, and direct, practical governance.
Dr. Thomas, who was announced as the winner of the August 30th election by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, declared that his connection to the community runs deep.
"We understand the yearnings and aspirations of our people. I have walked among you, I have shared in your struggles, and I know what Khana needs. The time for rhetoric is gone; now is the time for action."
He continued,
"Our people want security, our people want development, our people want opportunity—and by the grace of God, we shall deliver all," a statement that was met with loud applause.
The chairman's inauguration was framed as a divine calling by Rev. Fr. Tambari Dee, the parish priest of St. Francis Catholic Church, Baen. Drawing a parallel to a legendary biblical figure, the priest urged Dr. Thomas to embrace a path of servant-leadership.
"Today, by the authority bestowed upon you, the government has anointed you to lead your people. You are the new Moses of this land. Lead this land to the promised land of peace and prosperity. Let the people of Khana smile under you and bless God because of your leadership."
The priest also delivered a solemn warning, reminding the chairman of his duty to the most vulnerable.
"Do not allow yourself to be carried away by those who come to take from you rather than give. Governance is not for the few; it is for the many. The widows, the orphans, the farmers in the villages—these are the ones you must carry along. What you do for them will be your testimony before God and man."
Following the church service, Dr. Thomas immediately moved to action, unveiling the newly constructed KenKhana Divisional Police Station at Duburo Junction—the third of its kind in Khana. He emphasized that peace and security are non-negotiable prerequisites for any meaningful progress.

"We have journeyed this road before, but now we are back to complete what we once started. Today’s groundbreaking of the KenKhana Divisional Police Station marks a turning point. With this facility, we are laying the foundation for lasting peace. Effective policing will no longer be a dream in Khana—it will be a reality."
The monarch of Baen, Mene Daniel F. Nwidag, Mene Bua-Baen, echoed the community's high hopes, commending the chairman for his initial focus on security.
"The people of Khana are happy today. We know Dr. Thomas for his good works in the past, and our expectations are high. We pray that God grants him wisdom and strength to lead with fairness and integrity."
With these powerful commitments and a clear path forward, Dr. Bariere Thomas is setting the stage for an administration focused on tangible transformation, proving that for Khana, the time for action has truly begun.
